EU stands with Philippines after another attack

05/09/2016 (Agence Europe)On Saturday 3 September, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) said that the European Union stands in solidarity with the people and government of the Philippines following yesterday evening's bomb attack in the city of Davao, from where Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte comes. The attack is thought to have been carried out by Abu Sayyaf, an Islamist group linked to so-called Islamic State. At least 14 people were killed in the attack and around 60 people injured. The EEAS spokesperson said in a press release that tackling terrorism, in any form and in any country, “is a priority” for the European Union, and that the EU "stands by the authorities in the Philippines in their efforts to provide stability and security for their citizens against this threat".  (CG)
