26/08/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 26 August, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini condemned an attack on a police station in the coastal town of Cizre in south-east Turkey, which killed 11 police officers and 78 other people. In a press release, she said "The European Union expresses its solidarity and sympathy with the government and people of Turkey. We will continue to strengthen our cooperation to prevent and counter terrorism." The High Representative said that Turkish European minister Omer Celik would be briefing EU foreign ministers on the situation in his country following the failed coup d’etat of 15 July at a Gymnich-type meeting on 2 and 3 September. Mogherini and Enlargement Negotiations Commissioner Johannes Hahn will travel to Ankara on 9 September for a high-level political dialogue with Turkey in order "to discuss all issues of common interest and concern with Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and (…) Çelik."
