Brussels, 25/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - A few days ahead of the great crossover between those who take their holidays in July and those who take them in August, the European Commission on Monday 25 July launched an online tool to provide motorists with information on their fuel consumption.
This instrument, known as the 'green driving tool', was developed by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the Commission. It uses detailed mapping data and is based on variables such as car segment, engine size, fuel type and driving behaviour. It aims to inform motorists of the impact of their car journeys by giving them information about their fuel consumption, related costs and CO2 emissions.
“This is an excellent example of how science can support political objectives and provide practical tools to meet societal challenges and give the citizens ownership”, said Commissioner Tibor Navracsics. He went on to stress that the tool is in step with the European strategy for low-emissions mobility presented on 20 July and with the Commission's efforts to de-carbonise transport.
