25/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU condemns attacks against hospitals in Aleppo. On Monday 25 July, the EU condemned the recent attacks in Aleppo, Syria. These attacks targeted civilian infrastructure “including, hospitals and medical clinics”. On Saturday night 23 July and Sunday 24 July, aircraft bombardments hit four field hospitals and a blood bank. So far, no official count has been made of the fatalities. The spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS), Nabila Massrali, explained to EUROPE that these attacks “are part of the increasing violence in northern Syria”, which is causing much concern. The spokesperson added that the situation is “making the chances of a political solution to the conflict” much less likely. She added that the EU was calling on all the different Syrian parties not to attack the civilian population and cease hostilities. She stated that “five years of war have shown that there is no military solution and only a political transition can end the bloodshed”. (CG)
