Brussels, 22/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - As the habitats of 17 vulnerable bird species in the Rila Mountains, the largest mountain range of the Balkan Peninsula, are still unprotected, the European Commission referred Bulgaria to the Court of Justice of the EU on Friday 22 July.
The Bulgarian authorities have, admittedly, made some progress in this region, by designating 72% of the area as a special protection zone, as required by Directive 2009/147/EEC on the conservation of wild birds....
