22/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - Visegrad group sets itself up as defender of national sovereignty. The heads of state and/or government of the Visegrad group of countries (Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia), meeting in Warsaw on Thursday 21 July, highlighted shared positions that they intend to defend at September's informal summit in Bratislava. At this summit, which will provide the opportunity to take stock of the consequences of Brexit for the future of European construction, the four member states have pledged to present a common front in arguing for reform of the EU based on a return to the sovereignty of national parliaments, defence of the single market and less integration. Their message comes just after the debacle they and others in Central Europe have experienced with regard to the issue of the posting of workers (EUROPE 11598). (JK)
