22/07/206 (Agence Europe) - Further aid of €194 million. The European Commission announced at the International Pledging Conference, in Washington on Wednesday 20 July, that the European Union was to provide additional assistance for Iraq worth €194 million. This fresh support “will help us support more Iraqis in need and also Syrian refugees who fled one conflict to find themselves in another. We must be prepared for more humanitarian consequences as a result of the conflict, especially in areas like Anbar and towards Mosul”, said Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Christos Stylianides. The Commission pointed out that ten million people, nearly a third of the country's population, rely on humanitarian assistance and more than 3.4 million people, more than half of whom are children, have been displaced in the country due to the ongoing conflict.
