22/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU condemns murder of journalist Pavlo Sheremet. On Wednesday 20 July, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service condemned the murder of journalist Pavlo Sheremet earlier that day in the centre of Kiev in Ukraine. The journalist, originally from Belarus but of Russian nationality, was killed when the car he was driving exploded. “Such attacks are unacceptable and a swift and transparent investigation must be carried out to bring those responsible for this crime to justice”, said the spokesperson, stating that the EU stands alongside the Ukrainian authorities in upholding the freedoms of expression and of the media, and will continue to work to protect journalists in their “essential”, professional work.
