Setting age limit for recruitment of police officers may be legal

Brussels, 22/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - The aim of ensuring a balanced age structure and not compromising the effectiveness of the police service could justify the imposition of an upper age limit on the recruitment of officers, argued Advocate General Paolo Mengozzi before the Court of Justice of the EU on Thursday 22 July.

The Advocate General came to this opinion despite a 2014 ruling which stated that member states could not set an upper age limit for the recruitment of local police...
