28/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - Liberia officially becomes the 163rd member of the WTO in mid-July. On 14 June last, the Liberian Parliament ratified the protocol for an agreement on Liberia's succession to the WTO. Liberia is officially expected to become the 163rd member country of the organisation on 14 July next. Liberia's accession negotiations were concluded on 6 October 2015 and its candidacy was submitted in 2007. The country's accession to the WTO was officially approved during the 10th WTO ministerial conference in Nairobi on 16 December 2015 (see EUROPE 11456). Liberia has undertaken to make concessions and commitments on tariffs that consolidate its customs duty rates to an average of 26.7%, with 23.8% for agricultural products and 27.2% for other product categories.
