28/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - Greenpeace calls for a Europe based on sustainability and solidarity reconnected to its values. On Tuesday 28 June, the deputy Director of Greenpeace EU, informed the European Council that "It's time to EU leaders to think beyond the common market and build a better society that meets the needs of people and the environment". This NGO believes that the response to Brexit is a Europe of solidarity, sustainability and peace, values that bring people together and constitute an alternative to "the Europe of austerity, deregulation, corporate greed and closed borders that has failed people and the planet. It has widened the gap between rich and poor and eroded the ability to face up to the global challenges of climate change, ecosystem collapse and war". Greenpeace points out that "Millions across this continent are already striving to build fairer and sustainable communities". (AN)
