Parliament endorses EU-Monaco automatic information exchange agreement

Brussels, 23/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament voted by 549 to 16, with 23 abstentions on Thursday 23 June to approve the agreement initialled in February by the EU and Monaco on the automatic exchange of information on bank accounts.

Under the agreement, Monaco and the member states of the EU will, from 2018, automatically exchange information, gathered from 1 January 2017, on the bank accounts of each other's residents. As part of the new deal, member states will receive the names, addresses, tax identification numbers and dates of birth of their residents who hold an account or accounts in Monaco, along with certain other financial information including the balance of these accounts.

Formal signing of the agreement is scheduled to take place before the summer break. Similar agreements with Switzerland, Liechtenstein, San Marino and Andorra have previously been approved by the Parliament. (Original version in French by Elodie Lamer)
