23/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - Energy: MEDREG underlines progress in regulatory cooperation and coherence. “The Mediterranean region is currently facing complex geopolitical challenges, such as the energy challenge, which make integration and increased regulatory coherence even more vital”, according to the Euro-Mediterranean network of energy regulators, MEDREG, which presented its 2015 annual report on Thursday. “It is particularly important to seek significant tools of cooperation between the countries of the region”, particularly in energy, which is “one of very few sectors in the Mediterranean where there have been positive developments”. MEDREG states that in the Mediterranean, “energy regulation is making steady progress. Several countries are experiencing reforms of their electricity and gas sectors, which are reinforcing the competences of their regulators”. MEDREG “has played a part in this, making sure that this progress comes through tailor-made reinforcement activities of the capabilities and a clear assessment of conditions on the national markets”.
