23/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - Airlines' crusade against strikes by air traffic controllers. Faced with escalating strikes by air traffic controllers in France, Italy and Portugal, the major airlines belonging to the A4E (Airlines for Europe) organisation made another appeal for the European Commission and member states to take action to "to act and to protect the rights of millions of European travellers affected by this unceasing strike actions". Thomas Reynaert, A4E Director-General, made this statement on Thursday 23 June. The CEOs of A4E, such as Air France KLM, easyJet, Finnair, International Airlines Group (IAG), jet2.com, Lufthansa Group, Norwegian, Ryanair and Volotea, will meet on Tuesday 28 June, in view of discussing possible policy solutions to minimise the impact of these strikes, Mr Reynaert added. Repeated strikes by air traffic controllers have been regularly denounced by the airlines, which have experienced heavy losses as a result of them (see EUROPE 11517). (PH)
