19/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU and Central Asian countries discuss enhanced cooperation. On Wednesday 18 May in Brussels, EU and Central Asian countries (Kirghizstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan) held discussions during their third High Level Political and Security Dialogue. According to a press release from the EEAS, these discussions focused on counterterrorism, migration, border management and regional connectivity. The meeting also served to prepare the upcoming Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan, planned for 5 October 2016. This will be attended by representatives from the different countries and discussions will focus on joint programs for increasing stability and cross-border security. This meeting is a follow-up to the EU/Central Asia ministerial meeting carried out on 21 December 2015, which focused on economic development and trade. The working dinner provided an opportunity to discuss regional and international questions, including Iran and Syria. (CG)
