10/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - Commission Thyssen takes part in Washington round table. From 10 May until Thursday 12 May, the Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility, Marianne Thyssen, will be on official visit in Washington DC, United States, for round table talks on long term unemployment. In the EU, long-term unemployment accounts for half of all those unemployed, whilst in the US, it accounts for one quarter of the total number of unemployed. Ms Thyssen is also expected to have meetings with the US Labor Secretary, Thomas Perez, members of the US Congress and the Council of Economic Advisers, the advisory body to the US President. She is also expected to meet the President of the main US trade union organisation (AFL-CIO), Richard Trumka, and the Deputy Director-General of the IMF, Min Zhu. On Thursday, she is due to take part in an Atlantic Council debate on the EU's future strategy on new skills and visit a job centre. (JK)
