10/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - MEPs give go-ahead to EU/South Korea agreement on satellite navigation. On Tuesday 10 May, the European Parliament approved by 451 votes in favour, with 63 against and 46 abstentions, the Council decision to conclude a cooperation agreement on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) for civilian use between the EU and South Korea. This agreement seeks to step up cooperation between the two parties in the area of spectrum radio, scientific research and training, business cooperation, trade and market development, standardisation, approximation and regulatory measures, security and responsibility and cost recovery. Use of the Galileo space navigation programme, however, is not covered by the agreement. The Council can therefore adopt it as point A, before the end of the Dutch Presidency of the Council of the EU. (PH)
