14/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU alters sanctions against Al Qaida and IS. On Monday 14 March, the Council adopted a decision amending restrictions against member of the Al Qaida organisation and individuals, groups, and bodies associated with it. The decision transposes United Nations Security Council Resolution 2253 adopted on 17 December 2015. In the resolution, the Security Council reiterates its unequivocal condemnation of IS and strengthens the fight against this terror organisation within the existing framework of the fight against Al Qaida. The UN resolution calls on member states to reduce the flow of finance and other assets and economic resources of people and bodies on the list of sanctions against IS and Al Qaida. Countries should take measures to freeze assets, issue travel bans and institute an arms embargo. The legal acts related to the EU's decision will be published in the Official Journal on 15 March.
