17/02/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU contributes €15.7 million to New Generation Data Centre in Covilhã. On Monday15 February, the European Commission approved €15.7 million funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the New Generation Data Centre in Covilhã, Portugal. The project funding is worth a total of €59 million, together with cofinancing. At this stage, the Centre can host the installation of 10,000 servers connected to the high speed optic fibre network. Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Creþu said: “This project will greatly contribute to reinforce Portugal's position in the high tech sector” and should help to create 86 new direct jobs and 500 additional indirect jobs. This major project is co-financed under the 2007-2013 period. (PH)
