16/02/2016 (Agence Europe) - African swine fever. At the Agriculture Council on Monday 15 February, Poland protested against the latest EU measures (extension of areas subject to restrictions) to fight African swine fever (see EUROPE 11484). Poland also asked the EU to grant Ukraine financial assistance to control African swine fever on its territory and to prevent the spread of this disease. Romania stated that there were also outbreaks in Moldova. The Baltic countries mentioned cases or risks in Russia and Belarus. Bulgaria thought there was a risk of cases in Turkey. Germany and France mentioned the need for cooperation with Ukraine. The European Commission defended the extension of the areas under restrictions. For Ukraine, the Commission is ready to finance the African swine fever control and prevention measures totally, but would like to receive a control plan from this country. (LC)
