08/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - Energy Union, Maroš Šefèoviè travels to Cyprus. As part of a tour of member states for discussions on Energy Union, the vice-president of the European Commission with responsibility for energy, Maroš Šefèoviè, is travelling to Cyprus on 11 and 12 January. On Monday, Šefèoviè will meet the Cypriot president, Nicos Anastasiades, the energy minister, Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, foreign minister Ioannis Kasoulides, as well as the speaker of the Chamber of Representatives and members of the Cypriot parliament's energy committee. He will attend a citizen's dialogue at Cyprus University and will visit the Vassilikos power station. On Tuesday, Šefèoviè will meet players from the energy industry and the world of academia. Before setting off, the Commissioner commented: “My Energy Union Tour in Cyprus will provide an excellent opportunity to present and discuss EU funding possibilities and its contribution to achieve the EUROPE 2020 strategy targets, in particular as regards renewable energy and energy efficiency. Cyprus might be an island, but it doesn't have to be an energy island.” (EH)
