17/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - S&D Group's new Educa campaign. On Tuesday 15 December, the S&D Group launched an initiative aiming to increase access to education in conflict zones. Going by the name of Educa (hash-tag gofor4 on Twitter), this campaign advocates increasing the percentage of EU humanitarian aid given to education in emergency zones from 2% to 4% by 2018. It also argues for a stronger link between humanitarian aid and cooperation and development policies. According to the S&D Group, only 65% of children living in conflict zones manage to make it to the end of primary schools, compared with 86% in general in low income countries. The S&D Group believes that doubling the humanitarian aid would enable 7 million children to benefit from the emergency education programme. (SPj)
