Brussels, 27/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 26 November, MEPs stated their concern at the worsening of the human rights and security situation in Afghanistan.
In the joint resolution they adopted, MEPs strongly condemn the “barbaric” murder and beheading of seven members of the Hazara minority in the south-eastern Afghan province of Zabul. “Protection of the Hazara community, as a group particularly vulnerable to Taliban and Da'esh/ISIL terrorist violence, should be a priority for the Afghan government”, the MEPs state. In their view, the murder of civilian hostages should be considered a war crime.
The Parliament also asks the Afghan government to step up its cooperation with the government of Pakistan. MEPs want to support the Afghan government in taking essential reforms, including strengthening governance and the rule of law, the respect of human rights and the fight against corruption and drugs trafficking.
