Brussels, 13/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 11 November, the EU and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women opened two study workshops in Tunis on “the promotion and participation of women in non-traditional sectors of the economy”. The theme focuses on “economic emancipation” in conflict and post-conflict situations.
A press release says that these two regional workshops have been designed in a Mediterranean framework and are supported by the EU-financed “Spring Forwards for Women” programme - which “aims to recognise and promote the determining role that women play in development and economic growth in the region”.
The Tunis workshops follow on from an initial, similar, meeting that took place in Cairo (Egypt) in April 2015. The Cairo meeting then resulted in the launch of the “Khadija” programme in September (an economic network of Arab women). (Original version in French by Fathi B'Chir)
