13/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - Construction of cave replica to receive €9.8 million. On Tuesday 10 November, the European Commission approved co-funding of €9.8 million for the construction of a replica of the Grotte de Chauvet in France, the total cost of which is estimated at close to €52 million. The project will allow the general public to view replicas of the paintings on the walls of the cave which has been closed in order to preserve them. The investment comes under the “major projects” costing over €50 million, such as the restoration of the maritime character of the Mont-Saint-Michel (see EUROPE 11423) under the operational programme of the European regional development fund (ERDF). It was agreed during the 2007-2013 programming period. (PH)
