13/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - Urok, Mediterranea and Mustang in running for LUX Prize. The LUX Prize, which recognises the best in European cinema, will be awarded on 24 November during the plenary session of the European Parliament. Three films are in the running for the prize: Urok, Mediterranea and Mustang. Urok (Bulgaria, Greece), by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov, explores the school environment, looking at how economic adversity can shatter a comfortable existence. Mediterranea (Italy, United States, Germany, France, Qatar), the first feature-length film by Jonas Carpignano, assesses the very sensitive, topical issue of migrants crossing the Mediterranean in search of freedom and safety. Mustang (France, Germany, Turkey, Qatar), by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, portrays the imprisonment of young girls in a male-dominated society still very much under the influence of local traditions. The films are currently being shown in the Parliament and in some dozen European capitals to help MEPs (LUX Prize) and the public (Public Prize) decide on the winner. (SPj)
