Promoting dairy industry and innovative projects

Brussels, 22/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 20 October, LACTIMED (the Mediterranean network of dairy sector operators) announced its support for ten innovative projects. Launched in 2014, LACTIMED aims to give “new momentum to the Mediterranean dairy industry and to show that innovation and entrepreneurial spirit can be compatible with traditional know-how and local resources”, according to an official presentation.

The ten projects were selected in a competition which this year involved around 50 projects in different territories (Egypt, Greece, Italy, Lebanon and Tunisia).

LACTIMED says the winners include an innovative concept of Feta in Greece, a green Kechek produced by a women's cooperative in Turkey, an organic flavoured Labneh in Lebanon, an organic detergent made from milk microflora in Tunisia, the development of lactic ferments in Sicily, and a project promoting agri-tourism in Tunisia. The objective is both “to support innovation and to strengthen the capacity of project directors, accompanying them in their development” and search for financing.
