06/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU hails holding of parliamentary elections. During the evening of Monday 5 October, the EU announced that the parliamentary elections of 4 October “mark an important milestone in the democratic transition” of Kyrgyzstan. “Following the efforts by the national authorities to improve the electoral process”, the elections were “competitive, orderly and peaceful”, said the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. “The active participation of the people of the Kyrgyz Republic confirmed their support for parliamentary democracy”, Mogherini's spokesperson added, announcing that the EU was preparing a €13.13 million programme to further support the improvement of the electoral process in the country. Mogherini's spokesperson called on Kyrgyzstan to implement the recommendations of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) before the next municipal and presidential elections in 2016 and 2017.
