Brussels, 06/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - On the first day of the 22nd Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress (ITS World Congress) in Bordeaux from 5 to 9 October, Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc highlighted the importance of developing systems of this type to better manage traffic, reduce carbon emissions and build growth and create green jobs.
On the same day, the commissioner took part in a roundtable discussion with French Transport Minister Alain Vidalies and Mayor of Bordeaux and former French Foreign Minister Alain Juppé. She also handed over a cheque for more than €110 million to promoters of intelligent transport system projects selected as part of the Connecting Europe Facility.
Intelligent transport systems are an integral part of the Commission's strategy establishing a digital single market to improve Europe's transport networks and intermodality.
The Commission is currently considering future systems, for example, in the discussion platform on the roll out of cooperative ITS. On Wednesday 2 September, the Commission opened a public consultation Europe-wide on multimodal travel information services within the framework of Directive 2010/40/EU on the deployment of intelligent transport systems.
