Brussels, 06/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - European Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan spoke on Monday 5 October of the imminent establishment of an agricultural markets task force, inter alia, to bring improvements for suppliers in the food chain.
“I am establishing an Agricultural Markets Task Force to report in one year”, said Hogan in a press release issued after a meeting with French Agriculture Minister Stéphane Le Foll in Paris.
The two agreed that “the position of producers in the food chain must be strengthened”, the commissioner adding that he supported Le Foll's “proposals to have better market data available to member states and to have regular discussions on the potential for EU agricultural trade in third countries”.
Hogan also spoke of “swift progress” being made towards adoption of the €500 million support package for milk and pigmeat producers that was agreed at the start of September. France will receive €63 million of this total amount.
The Commission is also planning a new enhanced scheme for private storage aid for skimmed milk powder and cheese, and a new scheme of private storage for pigmeat. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
