Brussels, 26/08/2015 (Agence Europe) - According to results published by Eurostat on Wednesday 12 August, industrial production in the eurozone fell by 0.4% in June compared to the previous month, whilst the European Union as a whole recorded a slight increase of 0.2%.
The month of May saw the same tendency for the eurozone as for April, with a fall of 0.2%. This decrease is believed to be down to a 2% drop in the production of durable consumer goods, such as cars and household electronic equipment, 1.8% for investment products and 0.5% for intermediate goods. The production of non-durable consumer goods remained unchanged, whilst energy production grew by 3.2%.
Croatia (-2.9%), Portugal (-2.1%) and Ireland (-2.1%) are named as the three member states with the steepest drops, whilst Denmark (+4.2%), the Netherlands (+3.9%) and Slovakia (+1.4%) saw the greatest increases.
Compared to June 2014, however, industrial production has grown by 1.2%, on the back of a 2.5% increase in the production of non-durable consumer goods (+2.5%), investment goods (+1.7%), intermediate goods (+0.2%) and durable consumer goods (+0.1%). Over the year, energy production, on the other hand, has remained unchanged. (Pascal Hansens)
