20/07/2015 (Agence Europe) - EIB lends €800 million to build expressways in Poland. The European Investment Bank (EIB) is to lend 3.4 million zlotys (€800 million) to the Polish Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego for the construction of a bypass around Warsaw and an expressway in Western Poland. A long-term loan of €550 million will be allocated for the construction of several sections (totalling 162.5 km) of the S5 expressway from the A1 motorway near Grudziadz via Bydgoszcz to Wroclaw. Another long-term loan of €250 million will be allocated for the construction of the 18.6 km southern section of the Warsaw bypass between Pulawska and Lubelska streets, and for a new bridge across the River Vistula. In 2014, the EIB granted over €1.8 million to build several sections of Polish expressways. The Polish transport sector is the main beneficiary of EIB loans in Poland (40% of the total since 1990).
