01/07/2015 (Agence Europe) - Legislation soon to be adopted on pollution from medium combustion plants. On Wednesday 1 July a step was made towards the adoption of EU legislation that will limit pollution from electricity generators and heating and cooling systems for domestic or industrial use. The ambassadors of the 28 member states to the EU (Coreper) ratified the provisional interinstitutional agreement on the draft directive aiming to limit the emissions of certain pollutants from medium combustion plants (see EUROPE 11342). Under this agreement, limits will be applied from 2025 to existing plants of 5-50 megawatts, while smaller plants (1-5 megawatts) will have until 2030 to respect these limits. New plants will have to come into line two years after the directive enters into force. (AN)
