Six Oscar-nominated films supported by MEDIA

Brussels, 20/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - Six of the films in the running for Oscars this year have received financial support from the MEDIA sub-programme of Creative Europe. The six films have garnered a total of ten nominations in seven different categories. They were made in Belgium, Ireland, Poland, the United Kingdom and France and each received MEDIA funding of at least €3 million.

The Polish film Ida and the French-Mauritanian co-production Timbuktu have been nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Ida has also been nominated for Best Cinematography. The British film Mr Turner has been nominated in several categories: Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Production Design and Best Costume Design. The Salt of the Earth is up for the award in the Best Documentary category, while the Irish Song of the Sea is in the Best Animation category. French actress Marion Cotillard has been nominated as Best Actress for her performance in the film Deux jours, une nuit. The awards ceremony will take place in Hollywood on 22 February.
