Brussels, 27/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 27 January, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini criticised the attack the same morning on the Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli - an attack she considered as “another reprehensible act of terrorism which deals a blow to efforts to bring peace and stability to Libya”. “Such attacks should not be allowed to undermine the political process”, Mogherini stated. Three armed men stormed the hotel after setting off a bomb in front of the building. At least nine people, including five foreigners, have reportedly been killed and there are five people wounded. The attack has apparently been claimed by the Libyan branch of Islamic State. Mogherini reiterated that the EU “strongly” supports the efforts of the ongoing United Nations-led talks “to bring a political solution based on respect and dialogue” (see EUROPE 11233). The second round of negotiations resumed in Geneva on 26 January, after initial discussions on 14-15 January. (CG)
