Brussels, 27/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - Following the Ecofin Council on Tuesday 27 January, France said that it was satisfied that the joint Council/Commission declaration on fighting the financing of terrorism includes the elements it wanted to “see underlined”.
This declaration urges the countries to speed up the implementation process of the fourth directive on money laundering, which was adopted last week by the Committee of Permanent Representatives, and the regulation on the information accompanying transfers of funds. The competent committees of the EP adopted the two agreements on the texts on Tuesday.
The Council/Commission joint declaration calls for cooperation to be reinforced further between the financial intelligence units and for the risks posed by virtual currencies to be evaluated.
The Council and the Commission will look at other actions to be taken at national and European level to fight the financing of terrorism in the context of the European security agenda. An initial discussion will be held at the informal European Council of 12 February. (EL)
