(AE) Main activities of the European institutions from 19/01 to 25/01

Monday 19 January

Brussels. European Parliament. Committee meetings (until 22/01). *19-22/01: - Various committees: meetings with members of the Latvian government to discuss the Presidency programme; *19/01: CONT: discussion with Court of Auditors President Victor Manuel da Silva Caldeira on the Court's 2015 programme. *20-22/01: - Various committees: “speed hearing” following up on the EYE event of May 2014 with young Europeans. *20/01: - AFET: discussion with the president of the Arab League on the situation in the Mediterranean and the Middle East (Syria Iraq, Libya, Egypt). - AFCO: discussion with Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans on better legislation and the transparency register; reflection on the Italian Presidency with Secretary of State Sandro Gozi. - FEMM: vote on an oral question on implementation of the action programme to tackle female genital mutilation. *21/01: - CONT: vote on measures to address EU budget fraud on the basis of the Commission's 2013 report. - ENVI: vote on a resolution calling for fresh legislation on the labelling of meat used in processed products. BUDG and security and defence sub-committee: discussion on ESDP funding. - INTA: discussion on the TTIP agreement and on the outcome of the Commission consultation on possible ISDS arrangements in the TTIP (and 22/01)

* 22/01: - IMCO: hearing on the possibility of a European framework on customs fraud penalties. - LIBE: debate on the human rights situation in Hungary.

Brussels. Council of Ministers. Foreign Affairs Council: - EU-Russia: definition of policy guidelines for the continuation of talks; - Climate change: EU diplomacy ahead of the climate conference (Paris, December 2015); - Situation in Libya and in DRC; - tackling terrorism, following the recent events in France and other EU countries.

Wednesday 21 January

Luxembourg. *Court of Justice of the EU. #Rulings: C-482-484-485-487/13 (various Spanish banks - possibility for a judge to have exploitative payment default interest in loan contracts recalculated); - *General Court of the EU: #Ruling T-355/13 (easyjet Airline/Commission - rejection, by the Commission, of the easyjet complaint over Schipol Airport pricing); T-509/11 (Makhlouf/Council - removal of restrictive measures against Mr.Makhlouf, uncle de Bashar al-Assad).

Davos (Switzerland). World Economic Forum (until 24/01). The 2,500 participants will hold discussions over four days on the main challenges currently faced (growth, employment, tackling poverty, energy, climate, the digital economy, banks, security, etc.). The Commission and the Parliament will be represented at the highest level.

Luxembourg. *Court of Justice of the EU. #Rulings: C-463/13 (Stanley International Betting and Stanleybet Malta - reorganisation by Italy of a fresh tender for concessions of shorter duration than previous concessions for the taking of bets); - C-419/13 (Art & Allposters International - reproduction of the same work in various forms - paper and canvas - by the holder of reproduction rights); C-441/13 (Hedjuk - when protected photographs are put online on an internet site accessible in a member state, competence of that state's courts in ruling on copyright infringements resulting from the photographs' being posted online). #Opinions C-15/14 P (Commission/MOL - Appeal by the Commission against the ruling annulling its decision on state aid to the oil company MOL in Hungary). *General Court of the EU. #Rulings: T420/11 et T-56/12 (Ocean Capital Administration and Irisl Maritime Training Institute/Council - appeal by the applicants against their inclusion on the list of entities subject to restrictive measures against Iran; - T-176/12 (Bank Tejarat/Council - request for removal from the list of entities subject to restrictive measures against Iran.
