Monday's Council to review situation

Brussels, 16/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - At the request of Belgium's Foreign Affairs Minister Didier Reynders, the situation in the African Great Lakes region will quickly be addressed in Brussels by the foreign affairs ministers of the 28 EU member states on Monday 19 January. Reynders will update his colleagues on his recent visit to this region.

In the conclusions that it will adopt without debate, the Council will state its considerable concern about the recent upsurge in violence committed by armed groups in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The Council is expected to recall that it is the responsibility of all the parties to work towards the full implementation of the framework agreement for peace, security and cooperation in the DRC and the region, and to underline that it is time to use military action to disarm the FDLR (Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda), in line with Resolution 2147 of the Security Council.
