06/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - Meeting in Normandy format on 15 January. A meeting in the “Normandy” format (in other words with the leaders from Russia - Vladimir Putin, Ukraine - Petro Poroshenko, France - François Hollande, and Germany - Angela Merkel) will take place in Astana (Kazakhstan) on 15 January. “If it's to meet and talk without making progress, it's not worth it. But I think it will be”, said Hollande on Monday 5 January. He stated that Putin had told him that he did not want to annex the east of Ukraine. Putin “wants to remain influential and does not want Ukraine to fall into the NATO camp. What we want from Putin is for him to respect Ukraine's territorial integrity and not to support the rebels any more”, he said. The spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stated that the EU was in “close” contact with Paris and Berlin. (CG)
