Brussels, 17/12/2014 (Agence Europe) - MEPs are putting on the pressure to ensure that illegal cabotage is recognised as a serious offence against EU rules on transport operators (good repute of transport).
They rejected the list proposed by the European Commission for these infringements because illegal cabotage is not included on it (regulation examined in committee procedures) and adopted a very strict resolution in this respect on Wednesday 17 December (453 votes for, 180 against, with 79 abstentions).
MEPs believe that illegal cabotage should indeed be included in the list of serious infringements, due to the level of risk of fatalities or serious injuries. MEPs also criticised other shortcomings and called for the European Commission to withdraw its draft regulation and submit a new list of infringements to the transport committee at the EP.
On the previous day, MEPs informed the Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc, that social dumping should be duly taken into account by the Commission (EUROPE 11219). Renaud Muselier MEP (EPP, France), said that this rejection sent a warning to the Commission that MEPs would be particularly attentive to the Commission's proposals and would not allow any further social dumping in the sector.
