Brussels, 04/12/2014 (Agence Europe) - High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn will visit Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday 5 December. While there they will meet leaders from the institutions and political parties, and members of civil society and the business community so as to discuss reforms and the country's European integration process. “During the visit, we will engage with the new leadership of the country to understand if there is political will to launch a process that will get the country back on track”, Mogherini stated in a press release.
Fresh momentum? During a conference at the EPC on Wednesday 2 December, Hahn said that after the elections there were conditions for fresh momentum, with a Commission focused on economic measures and the proposal from Germany and the UK (see EUROPE 11192). “The EU is ready to look at the situation with fresh eyes and to see how new stages can be planned, if there are serious signs from the side of country's leaders and institutions”, he said (our translation). He urged the political leaders to progress with their commitments and to make all the necessary reforms - economic, social and on the rule of law. He also called for solutions to be found to the constitutional blockage. The country has still not brought its constitution into line with the European convention on human rights. (CG)
