Brussels, 04/12/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 4 December, the Competitiveness Council adopted a general approach for updating safety requirements for personal protective equipment sold in the internal market (helmets, glasses, gloves and clothing).
This general approach will help towards beginning negotiations with the European Parliament in view of adopting the new regulation next year.
The general approach on the regulation on personal protection equipment updates existing rules (directive 89/686/EEC) for the sale of these products and relates to required levels on health and safety regarding heat and flames, chemical products and flying particles, et cetera, if they are to qualify for the famous “EC” label. A general approach also emerged on a more coherent draft regulation on cable installations (replacing directive 2000/9/EC), which excludes historic models that are more than 30 years old. (MD)
