27/11/2014 (Agence Europe) - EU concerned by upsurge in violence in North Kivu. On Wednesday 26 November, the EU stated its alarm at the recent murders that have claimed over 100 victims in the Beni region (North Kivu) of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and it called on all parties to implement the framework agreement for peace, security and cooperation. “The EU offers its condolences to the families of the victims and calls on the authorities of the DRC to provide account of these atrocities and bring those responsible for them to justice. Together with the United Nations mission, the DRC authorities must do everything to protect the civilian people”, says a statement from the spokesperson of the European External Action Service (EEAS). The EU reiterates its support to MONUSCO (the United Nations mission in the DRC) and “strongly condemns” the recent attacks on it (our translation). (AN)
