Brussels, 27/11/2014 (Agence Europe) - The operator of the Ukrainian gas transit network, Ukrtransgaz, has begun posting statistics on daily gas transit flows through Ukraine on the information platform of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSO-G), its parent company, the Ukrainian gas company Naftogaz, announced in a press release on Tuesday 25 November.
Naftogaz, which is the first non-European company to share this information, both on storage and entrance-exit flows, states that its data concern 18 metering stations.
Under EU rules, EU-based network operators have had to publish technical and commercial statistics on the interconnection points on the ENTSO-G website since October 2013. Naftogaz has been posting statistics on the daily volumes of gas in underground storage facilities to the Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) website since August of this year.
Naftogaz adds that it hopes that the publication of these transit and storage data “will give our partners confidence in both the reliability of the Ukrainian gas transportation system and the commitment to best quality business practices at Naftogaz and Ukrtransgaz”.
The Ukrainian gas company goes on to state that it has invited international observers to monitor flows of gas to the EU via Ukraine this winter. Almost half of Russian supplies of gas to the EU comes via Ukraine. In the framework of several gas disputes, Russia has accused Ukraine of stealing Russian gas destined for the EU, which Ukraine has consistently denied. (EH)
