Brussels, 13/11/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 13 November, the European Commission explained that the 'troika', of which it is a member alongside the IMF and the ECB, was still in talks with the Greek authorities. “The (monitoring) mission will return to Athens when all elements are in place to allow a rapid and successful conclusion”, of the mission said Margaritis Schinas, spokesperson to the Brussels-based institution. “We still don't have a date” to announce, he added.
At last week's Eurogroup, the Commissioner for Economic Affairs, Pierre Moscovici, said that he expected the troika to be back in Athens by the end of this week. According to the Greek press, the institutional trio had a 19-point action plan for Greece. On Thursday, the Commission was still waiting for a response from the Greeks.
Despite a particularly tight timetable compared to the other monitoring missions which have taken place in Greece, the 'troika' is reported to be unlikely to show any extra leniency to conclude on time. The Eurogroup wants to be able to take decisions on Greek's exit from the eurozone adjustment programme at its meeting on 8 December. (EL)
