Brussels, 13/11/2014 (Agence Europe) - Italy, the acting president of the EU, is taking the initiative, together with the European Commission, to organise a conference on 18-19 November in Rome. This will focus on Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in the energy field and its theme will be “Building a Euro-Mediterranean Energy Bridge”.
Italy pointed out that ministers responsible for the energy portfolio in countries from the region and the EU are invited to the conference, as well as representatives from the financial institutions, regulatory associations, transport and industrial network operators.
On Wednesday and Thursday in Barcelona (Catalonia), the Secretariat General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) organised a meeting on renewable energy and energy efficiency. A workgroup had previously been set up, the Expanded Technical Committee (CTE), which is expected to present the Mediterranean initiatives on the table to the meeting and which seek to develop a regional energy market. The question of funding these kinds of projects has not gone away and will be tackled during the discussions. (FB)
