EU increases its aid to Ukrainians by €7.8 million

Brussels, 12/11/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 12 November, the EU announced that its humanitarian aid for victims of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine will increase by €7.8 million.

“Thousands of vulnerable victims are being pushed into humanitarian crisis by the fighting, especially with winter approaching. Our new funding will assist them in the months ahead”, states European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides in a press release.

Emergency aid of €3.3 million will be mobilised immediately in order to respond to the most urgent needs of the vulnerable people, as well as to the need of these people to prepare for the harsh winter conditions. The remaining €4.5 million is to help the rehabilitation mainly of the people who have been displaced and their host community.

This new funding will bring the humanitarian and rehabilitation aid to €32 million that has been mobilised by the Commission in response to this crisis in Eastern Ukraine. (AN)
