Brussels, 25/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 24 September, a spokesperson for the European Union stated that “the barbaric murder of the French national Hervé Gourdel is an affront to universally recognised values and rights”.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends, and express our solidarity with the French government and people”, the spokesperson said.
In the EU's view, “this atrocity is a further demonstration of the determination of groups affiliated to ISIL to pursue and extend their terror strategy”. The EU “remains more united than ever in its commitment to support international efforts to fight these terrorist groups who endanger regional and global stability. No effort must be spared to ensure that all perpetrators are held accountable”, the spokesperson stated. (FB)
