Brussels, 09/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 8 September, the ECB appointed the members of the Administrative Board of Review of the decisions to be made by the European institution from November onwards, as European banking supervisor of 119 banks of systemic importance in the eurozone.
The five permanent members of the board, who will have a mandate of five years renewable once, are: Mr F. Javier Aristegui Yanez (former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Spain), Ms Concetta Brescia Morra (Professor of Law), Mr André Camilleri (former Director General of the Malta Financial Services Authority), Mr Edgar Meister (former member of the executive board of the Deutsche Bundesbank) and Mr Jean-Paul Redouin (former First Deputy Governor of the Banque de France). Mr Kaarlo Jannari (former Director General of the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority) and Mr René Smits (former General Counsel of De Nederlandsche Bank) have been appointed as alternates.
From November, any directly affected natural or legal person may ask for a decision made by the ECB as single banking supervisor within the eurozone to be reviewed. If the Administrative Board of Review deems the request acceptable, it may (within a period of two months and by a majority of at least three of its members) ask the Governing Council to submit a new draft decision to the ECB board. The Governing Council will take account of the opinion of the board of review, but is not obliged to comply with it. (MB)
