Investigation into luxury watch manufaturers ends

Brussels, 30/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 30 July, the European Commission announced that it has closed its three-year investigation into the discontinuance of the supplies of spare parts by luxury watch manufacturers in a number of member states (France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom). The Commission opened the investigation in 2011 following a European Court of Justice decision that annulled its decision to reject a complaint from the European Confederation of Watch and Clock Repairers' Associations (CEAHR) in 2008. The Commission tried to establish whether the refusal to supply spare parts to independent watch repairers amounted to abuse of a dominant position on the market and therefore impeded competition. The Commission concluded after its investigation that “there is limited likelihood of finding such an infringement” and closed its investigation. (EL)
